Bagged concrete mix

Pre-blended cement, sand, and stone sold in bags, mixed with water on site. Practical for small quantities where a ready-mix delivery is uneconomical.

What does bagged concrete mix mean?

Bags come in several formulations, including standard mixes, high-early-strength versions, fiber-reinforced versions, and fast-setting products for posts. Consistency depends entirely on the person adding water, and adding too much is the near-universal mistake. Beyond roughly a cubic yard, bagged mix becomes more expensive and far more laborious than a delivered short load.

In practice

Two dozen bags is a reasonable afternoon; a hundred bags is a decision someone regrets by noon.
