Concrete pump
Equipment that moves concrete through a pipeline to places a truck chute cannot reach, using either a truck-mounted boom or a ground line.
What does concrete pump mean?
Pumpable mixes need enough fines and a controlled aggregate size to move through the line without plugging, so pump mixes are often designed differently than chute mixes. Pumping can reduce air content and change slump between the hopper and the discharge, which is why acceptance testing is performed at the point of placement. Line blockages are dangerous and are usually caused by a harsh mix, a dry line, or a delivery gap.
In practice
Basement floors, backyard patios behind a house, and any elevated deck effectively require a pump, and it is a significant line item on the bid.
