Epoxy-coated rebar

Rebar factory-coated with a fusion-bonded epoxy film, colored green, used to slow corrosion where chlorides from deicing salt or seawater will reach the steel.

What does epoxy-coated rebar mean?

The coating is a barrier, and its performance depends on staying intact, which makes handling, cutting, and bending damage the central concern. Field-cut ends and nicks must be touched up before placement. Bond to concrete is slightly reduced compared with black bar, which designers account for in development lengths.

In practice

Green bar shows up on bridge decks, parking structures, and coastal work, and crews are expected to use nylon slings and repair every scrape.
