Sealer & stain coverage calculator
Coverage rates differ widely between product types, and porous or broom-finished concrete drinks noticeably more than a hard-troweled floor. Always take the rate from the technical data sheet of the product you bought.
This calculator needs JavaScript. The reference table below covers the common cases.
| Product | Typical coverage |
|---|---|
| Penetrating silane/siloxane | 125–250 ft²/gal |
| Acrylic cure and seal | 200–400 ft²/gal |
| Water-based stain | 150–400 ft²/gal |
| Epoxy floor coating | 50–160 ft²/gal |
The formula
area (ft²) × coats ÷ coverage rate (ft² per gallon) = gallons
Worked example
600 ft² at 200 ft²/gal, two coats: 600 × 2 ÷ 200 = 6 gallons.

Assumptions
- Coverage rates are manufacturer figures and vary with porosity, finish and application method.
- Porous or broom-finished surfaces consume more on the first coat.
- Does not account for overspray, spillage or roller absorption.
