Slump test

The field test that measures concrete consistency by filling a standard cone, lifting it, and measuring how far the concrete settles.

What does slump test mean?

The test is quick, cheap, and repeatable, which is why it has survived as the universal acceptance check at the chute despite measuring only one property. Results are sensitive to timing, since concrete stiffens while the technician works, and to how the cone is filled and rodded. It is normally performed alongside temperature, air content, and cylinder casting from the same sample.

In practice

This is the test that decides on the spot whether a load is accepted, adjusted, or sent back.
