What the test involves

Wear is measured as depth of material removed over time under controlled conditions. Because it tests the finished surface rather than a cylinder, it captures the effects of finishing technique, curing, and any hardener or topping.
Common misconceptions
- Abrasion resistance is not predicted by compressive strength alone. Finishing quality and curing often matter more to the top layer than the mix's psi.
- The different procedures within the standard are not interchangeable, so a result is only meaningful when the procedure is stated alongside it.
- A dry-shake hardener does not make a poorly cured slab wear-resistant — curing failures show up as dusting regardless of what was shaken into the surface.
