Acrylic sealer
A topical film-forming sealer that sits on the surface, adds gloss, and enhances color. It is the standard sealer for decorative and stamped concrete.
What does acrylic sealer mean?
Acrylics are inexpensive, easy to apply, and easy to recoat, which is both their appeal and their weakness, since the film wears and needs periodic reapplication. Solvent-based versions penetrate slightly and darken the surface more; water-based versions have lower odor and regulatory restrictions in some regions. Applied too thick, over a damp slab, or over a dirty surface, they turn white, cloud, or peel.
In practice
Almost every glossy stamped patio in the country is under an acrylic, and almost every cloudy one was sealed over moisture or built up too thick.
