Grind and seal
Grinding a concrete floor to a chosen level of aggregate exposure and then applying a topical sealer or coating, rather than mechanically polishing to a sheen.
What does grind and seal mean?
It reaches a decorative result faster and cheaper than full polishing and allows gloss levels and colors that polishing cannot produce. The tradeoff is that the appearance depends on a surface film that will eventually scratch, wear, and need recoating. It is often the right answer for slabs too soft or too damaged to polish well.
In practice
Restaurants and small retail spaces frequently choose grind and seal for budget reasons and then recoat every few years.
