Mixer truck

The rotating-drum truck that transports and continues mixing ready-mix concrete on the way to the site. Typical loads run around ten cubic yards.

What does mixer truck mean?

The drum turns during transit to keep the mix from segregating and stiffening, and it reverses to discharge. Truck weight and turning radius drive site access decisions, and driving a loaded truck across a lawn, septic field, or new pavement is a common source of damage claims. Some trucks are volumetric mixers that batch on site from separate compartments, which suits small or variable quantities.

In practice

Whether a truck can safely reach the pour without crossing something fragile is often decided in a two-minute walk before the pour.
