Chute
The metal trough that carries concrete from the mixer truck to the placement. Chute reach is limited, which determines whether a pump or buggies are needed.
What does chute mean?
A truck with extension chutes can typically reach a limited distance from where it parks, and that reach drives site logistics and access decisions. Concrete should flow down a chute rather than free-fall from height, which causes segregation. The chute is also where sampling, slump testing, and any authorized water addition occur.
In practice
Whether a truck can back down a driveway and reach a backyard with chutes, or whether a pump is needed, is often the biggest cost variable in a small pour.
